Excel Challenge #3

Okay, this will be a short post but will use a formula worth knowing.

Imagine you are working with data that has a location code based on the site ID (i.e Site.A, Site.AA, etc.) followed by the year the data was collected (i.e. .13, .14., .15). If you are working on a task that requires only the site ID, how would you isolate it?

Solution:

 Click in cell B2 and type:

=LEFT(A2, LEN(A2)-3)

Double click on the black box at the lower right-hand corner of the cell to copy in all the cells below.
